Marriage
Congratulations on your engagement. Your decision to enter into the relationship of married life is a sign of love, hope and strength for the entire community.
Due to the volume of wedding requests and a large number of parishioners, weddings are celebrated for registered parishioners only. Either the bride or groom must be a registered, participating member of Holy Name Cathedral.
Please do not make additional wedding-related plans (reception, flowers, etc.) until you have received written confirmation from the Cathedral that your wedding date and time is confirmed and you have made the required payments.
If you are not currently a registered member, but you attend Mass at HNC on most weekends, and if you intend to be an active, contributing member of our parish community, you are welcome to register online here.
PREPARATION: A minimum of six (6) months of advanced planning and preparation prior to the wedding date is required.
TIMES FOR WEDDINGS:
Weddings:
Friday: 2:30 and 4:00 pm
Saturday: 11:00 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm
No weddings are celebrated on Sunday
Rehearsals:
Thursday: 5:30pm and 6:15pm
Friday: 5:30pm, 6:15pm, and 7:00pm
MUSIC
All music is planned in consultation with the Cathedral Music Department. The Cathedral Musicians will play all Cathedral weddings. To contact our Music Department, please email music@holynamecathedral.org
VISITING CLERGY
If a priest or deacon from outside the Archdiocese of Chicago is to officiate or concelebrate at your wedding, it is Archdiocesan policy for him to provide a “Letter of Good Standing” from his bishop or religious superior. That letter must be sent to the Archdiocese of Chicago no later than two weeks prior to the wedding date. The letter should be mailed to the Archbishop’s Delegate for Extern and International Priests at the Quigley Pastoral Center, 835 North Rush, Chicago, Illinois, 60611.
If a priest or deacon is an Archdiocesan priest/deacon it is required that he complete preparation. A priest or deacon from HNC will complete the paperwork for a priest or deacon outside of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
