At Holy Name Cathedral, we believe that parents are the first and most important teachers of the Catholic faith. Our Children’s Faith Formation Program partners with families to help children encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their Catholic identity, and become lifelong disciples.
As the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Holy Name Cathedral seeks to be a Front Door to Faith, welcoming every family into a community where children are formed through prayer, worship, Scripture, service, and sacraments.
We strive to help every child:
- Develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Understand and live the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Participating actively in the sacramental life of the Church
- Grow through prayer, Scripture, and service
- Experience the joy of belonging to a faith-filled community
Who Can Participate?

Our Partnership with Parents
Faith formation extends beyond the classroom. Parents are invited to:
- Attend Sunday Mass regularly with their children
- Pray together as a family
- Participate in family formation sessions
- Reinforce faith at home through conversation and example
- Support their child’s preparation for the sacraments
Together, we seek to form children who know they are Created, Connected, and Called to follow Jesus Christ.
Serve as a Catechist or Aide
We invite you to consider serving as a catechist for our Children’s Formation Ministry Program. We will provide you with a structured curriculum, educational resources, as well as training that will walk you through a typical class, suggest learning activities, and equip you with the tools you’ll need to teach the group of students you’ll be working with throughout the year.
If you are a teen in need of service hours, you are welcome to serve as a classroom aide.
