Young Adults Ministry – Introduction

Growing up and growing closer to God doesn’t always occur at the same pace. Young Adulthood is a stage in our life when we grow older and journey towards independence from when our parents dragged us to Church. We find ourselves living on our own and wrestling with God’s purpose for our lives. The unfortunate truth is often, we have looked outside the Church and outside our relationship with God to answer those questions. After a life lesson or two, His call back to Him eventually becomes loud enough, and we find ourselves back in a church pew listening and inviting him back into our hearts. If that story sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and a Young Adult community at HNC surrounds you on the same journey toward building a relationship with Jesus.

We believe the purpose we search for is found solely and entirely in that relationship with God. Jesus calls on us to participate in the work he started two thousand years ago. His Ministry in the Gospels is that work we are following. “Anchored in the Catholic Faith, the Young Adults Ministry identifies Spiritual, Service, and Fellowship opportunities for young adults to strengthen their faith, to provide apostolic ministry for those of the community, and be a welcoming community for HNC to encounter Jesus Christ.”

We hope you feel personally invited to ALL our Young Adult Ministry events. The last thing Jesus prayed for the night before his crucifixion was for unity among His believers. Jesus asked that we may be one just as He and the Father are one. He desired his disciples to be unified in their faith and love for one another. Participating in HNC’s Young Adult Ministry is a step in that direction.

Forming a small group will create opportunities for members to deepen their faith via sharing spiritual conversation, forming good disciplines, and developing authentic friendship.

Topic: “No one is good at praying, and all of us can work on it. Insights from Scripture, the early Church, and today.”

Dr Moringiello is an associate professor at DePaul University in their Catholic Studies Department.  He received his PhD in Theology from Notre Dame University and the focus of his research and teachings are on the early Christians and how they understood love (agage) as constitutive of their identity and their interpretation of Scripture.  He wrote his doctoral dissertation on St. Irenaeus of Lyon a second century Bishop and of the first great theologians of the Christian Tradition.

  1. Sunday, June 2, after 5:15pm Mass

Topic: Topic: The Secret to Sanctity: Needing God

Father Joshua Caswell, SJC, is the Superior General of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius. He was ordained a priest for the community in 2014 alongside his blood brother, Father Nathan Caswell. Celebrating a decade in the priesthood, Father Joshua’s vocation is part of an extraordinary family story: both he and Father Nathan are priests, and their sister, Sister Mary Judith, OP, belongs to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. Their parents undoubtedly take great pride in their children’s dedication to religious life. Canons Regular of St. John Cantius is a religious community of men dedicated to the restoration of the sacred. Living in imitation of Christ, and radical opposition to the values of the world; they work to restore the sacred in the Church and their own lives, seeking the sanctification of all.

  1. Sunday, July 14, after 5:15pm Mass

Topic: Praying with the Mass

Bishop Bob Lombardo came to Chicago in 2005 at Cardinal George’s request to establish a mission outreach to the poor on the west side. He has since overseen the creation of the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels and over $15 million in renovations. He also serves as the Vicar for Vicariate III in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Bishop Bob, a Notre Dame graduate with an accounting degree, felt a strong call to become a Franciscan and a priest. He has done missionary work in Bolivia and Honduras, organized youth programs in Manhattan, and directed the Padre Pio Shelter in the Bronx. He is a founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and holds a Masters of Divinity and a M.S. in Pastoral Counseling.

In Chicago, he founded and directs the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels and the Franciscans of the Eucharist of Chicago. He was appointed bishop by Pope Francis in September 2020 and ordained on November 13, 2020. He continues to lead the Mission and the Franciscans of the Eucharist.

In September 2020, Pope Francis appointed then Fr. Bob to the episcopacy. He was ordained a bishop on 11/13/2020 as highlighted here. He is currently in charge of Vicariate III, the grouping of parishes and Catholic institutions surrounding the Mission. He continues to be the director of the Mission and the superior of the Franciscans of the Eucharist even after his appointment to the episcopacy.
