This Month’s Topic: From the Ashes: Great Fire/Cathedral 1871- 1875

In honor of the 175th anniversary of the Holy Name Faith Community, this program focuses on the people who established Catholicism in Chicago.

Reflection on “Women Visionaries: Religious Women from Feb. 16 event

Approximately 25 adults endured the cold to learn about the religious women and men who ministered the children of Holy Name Parish/Cathedral. The most astonishing story concerned the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Few knew that the former University of St. Mary of the Lake house 300 orphans, infants to teens, some with physical disabilities. On October 9, 1871, 15 Sisters watched as the fire continued to move forward. Once it engulfed the water house, they scurried to round up the orphans and lead them miles north, away from the danger. Today, the Sisters sponsor Nazareth Academy and Bethlehem Woods Village.

Come to our next session of Fill Your Spiritual Backpack: From the Ashes: Great Fire/Cathedral 1871- 1875, Sunday, Mar. 16, 1:30pm, in the clubroom. Jeff Lipschultz will facilitate the discussion.

We will meet in the Parish Center Club Room — no advance registration needed.
