Gift of Securities or Shares of Stock
Thank you for considering a gift of securities in support of Holy Name Cathedral. To notify Holy Name Cathedral of a gift of securities, please contact Mary Lederer, Director of Stewardship. Prior to your transfer, please fill out a Letter of Intention (click here to download) and email to:

Gifts of securities often confer significant tax benefits to the donor. For example, contributions of appreciated securities held over a year are generally deductible at market value, regardless of what the donor paid for them. Additionally, the capital gains tax is avoided through such a gift.
All gifts of securities and stock are managed through the Archdiocesan Bank. Giving stock through electronic transfer is the easiest method when a donor maintains holdings in a brokered account. Alternatively, shares of stock physically held by a donor can be sent to the Archdiocesan Bank. For specific instructions on how to make a transfer, please refer to the Archdiocese of Chicago website (click here).
Acknowledgement of Gift
After a securities gift is received and matched to a donor, the Archdiocesan Bank sends an acknowledgement letter to Holy Name Cathedral’s Controller, who will then send the a letter to the donor stating the nature of the gift and the gift valuation date.
