As missionary disciples of Jesus Christ we celebrate, transform, and engage our diverse Cathedral parish through worship, life-long formation and service to one another.
Thank you for visiting Holy Name Cathedral
A nurse on the pediatric ward, before listening to children’s chests, would plug the stethoscope into their ears and let them listen to their own heart. Their eyes would always light up with awe, but she never got a response equal to four-year old Joey’s comment. Gently she tucked the stethoscope into his ears and placed the disk over his heart. ‘Listen, she said…What do you suppose this is?’ He drew his eyebrows together in puzzled line and looked up as if lost in the mystery of the strange tap – tap – tapping deep in his chest. Then his face broke out in a wondrous grin and he asked, ‘Is this Jesus knocking?’
The Lord Jesus knocks at the doorstop of our hearts. As the new Rector of Holy Name Cathedral, I welcome you to our marvelous website. Thank you for visiting us. We are a dynamic and vibrant downtown Faith Community with over 7,300 households. As we gather weekly around the Table of the Lord, we are blessed with many diverse ministries involving people of all ages. We are also Chicago’s one and only Cathedral, the Church of our Archbishop, Blase Cupich. As a famous Cathedral, our parish is welcome to thousands of visitors from all over the world. Catholic means universal and all are welcome!
I leave you with this thought… “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion”
May we always be passionate serving the People of God. Church is people and may Holy Name Cathedral welcome you home.
If you live in the area, please register and become a parishioner and get involved. I look forward to meeting you! Catch me after Mass and introduce yourself. Beautiful and historic Holy Name Cathedral – a prayerful landmark!
In His Holy Name,
Very Rev. Gregory Sakowicz

Giving to Holy Name
Stewardship is the recognition that all we have is a gift from God.
It asks that we use our time, talent, and treasure to fulfill the depth of our commitment to Holy Name Cathedral.
The Stewardship & Development office at Holy Name Cathedral seeks to actively facilitate the innate generosity of our parishioners
and friends of the Cathedral, as well as effectively communicate the needs of the parish and the opportunities for involvement.
The faith community provides the much needed financial resources that help Holy Name Cathedral continue its
good work and advance the mission of the Church.
